Join us for an evening of wine, light hors d’oeuvres, and music highlighting women composers and the experience of being a woman.

LOGISTICS:

The concert will be held at the home of Kristin Jensen and Daniel Krasnegor, 801 Park Street, Charlottesville, VA. There is street parking along Park Street and intersecting streets. Seating is limited! Early purchase is encouraged. Doors open at 7:30 PM, concert begins at 8 PM.

ABOUT THE CONCERT:

Jane: a name that has been many things to many women.
See Jane Run: an encouragement
Plain Jane: an insult
Jane Doe: a hiding place; dignity for the unnamed
Jane Eyre / Jane Austen: fictional/real giants of feminist literature

The experience of being a woman has as many variations as there are women, and yet there is much about the experience that unifies us. Each piece performed will highlight one of the following themes:
Peace
Hope
Resilience
Joy
Trust
Burden
Brokenness
Healing

Women composers being featured: Lili Boulanger, Amanda Harberg, Clara Schumann, Cecile Chamniade. We’ll also hear music by Ukrainian/French composer Dimitri Tchesnokov, Clara Schumann’s husband Robert Schumann, and Claude Debussy.

While this is a concert celebrating women, we acknowledge that the experiences of trans women, trans men, and nonbinary people are unique and yet can intersect with the experiences and issues of women. Further, we acknowledge the ways the intersectionalities of racism, sexism, homophobia, and transphobia cause issues to further disproportionately affect Black women, indigenous women, women of color, as well as Black members, indigenous members, and members of color in the LGBTQIA+ community.
